Quantity Surveying
Support

Cost certainty from the coordinated model – accurate quantities extracted directly from BIM, consultant estimates independently validated, and practical support with NEC information management obligations.

Our QS support gives commercial teams confidence that modelling, costing, and building will line up.

What we do

Reliable cost data straight from the coordinated model

DEW extracts accurate quantities directly from coordinated BIM models, giving commercial teams a transparent, traceable basis for cost planning and eliminating the errors that can creep into manual takeoffs.

We cross-check consultant cost estimates against model-derived quantities, catching discrepancies early so budgets are realistic and hold up through delivery.

For projects procured under NEC4, we support quantity surveyors and commercial teams with the obligations Option X10 (Information Modelling) creates. This includes producing and maintaining a compliant Information Execution Plan, meeting early warning duties where the Information Model is affected, and understanding the ownership, liability and insurance implications written into the clause. On NEC3 contracts, where these obligations arrive through Z clauses and project protocols instead, we provide the same practical support. In both cases, we translate contract requirements into working processes aligned with ISO 19650.

Ask us a question →
How accurate are quantities taken from the model?

Quantities are extracted directly from the coordinated BIM model rather than measured manually, so they reflect exactly what's been designed and coordinated. They are then structured to NRM classification so they drop straight into a bill of quantities. Reliability is tied to how developed the model is, so we're transparent about it: where elements are still at early design stages, we flag those quantities as provisional rather than reporting false precision.

No. We’re here to support your commercial team rather than replacing it. We provide the model-derived quantities, independent validation and information management expertise that make a QS's cost advice more robust, not a competing service.

Option X10 is the secondary option in NEC4 contracts covering information modelling. When included, it creates real contractual obligations: the contractor must submit an Information Execution Plan for acceptance, give early warning of anything that could affect the Information Model, and operate under specific liability and insurance provisions, with the client owning the model itself. Many commercial teams haven't dealt with these requirements before. We help QSs and contractors understand what's actually required and put practical, ISO 19650-aligned processes in place to comply.
